International Watch and Jewelry Guild Trade Show Report

Dallas, TX
November 21-22, 2003

- by B. Bullock, President

We had a really big show in “Big D,” nearly double the Dallas show 2 years ago. The members sure like the Sunday and Monday before Thanksgiving. We had over 500 members and special guests, plus 5 new members signed up.

Prices were strong on all better merchandise. Watches, diamonds and jewelrys were up 5 to 10%.

Forget Rolex sport watches – no steel date Subs on the floor. A few new steel Daytonas at $**** to $****. Nice tutones, no holes, at $**** for ladies and $**** to $**** for gents. Presidents at $**** to $****, double-quicks at $**** to $****. 18k white and platinum models were out of sight.

Due to the low dollar and high Euro, there was a shortage of Pateks, Cartiers and all better brands. The price of all better vintage watches just keeps rolling higher and higher.

All fine jewelry pieces and better loose goods, 2 carats and up, sold very strong. We saw better platinum bracelets, 20 carats and up, sell for $**** to $**** p/c. Dallas was the best show of the year for 2 and 3 piece suites, due to the holiday season. Some better stud earrings sold. No big supply of 2 carats and up.

It was a very nice way to end the year. I believe 2005 will start strong in Miami. Have a nice holiday season!
